EDU-ARCTIC: Engaging Students in Stem Education through Polar Research

Workshop goal: to present tools of the EDU-ARCTIC educational program for secondary schools and to train teachers how to use these tools effectively in the classroom

Target audience: STEM teachers from secondary schools (teaching pupils aged 13-19) with English understanding

Topics approached in the workshop: EDU-ARCTIC presentation, how to participate in online lessons with scientists, how to become an observer for the monitoring system, Polarpedia, how to win a trip to the Arctic

Workshop Description:

During the workshop, all EDU-ARCTIC educational tools will be presented (online lessons, Polarpedia, monitoring system, Arctic Competition and EDU-GAME) and teachers will have the opportunity to train on using the tools by themselves. We will also present the conference tools used for the online lessons, by connecting with a researcher at the Polish Polar Station Hornsund on Spitsbergen. She will explain what kind of research is conducted at the polar station and how the everyday life and work in such a remote place look. The workshop will end with a Kahoot quiz, with some polar prizes for the best respondents.
